Year 2 – St Theresa’s

Welcome to Year 2 - St Theresa's Class!

St. Theresa’s class have been working on some very exciting projects in mantle of the expert recently. We have just finished designing new hospitals after considering the impact Florence Nightingale had on hospital cleanliness and order. We are now imagining we are looking for potential buried treasure hidden by the infamous pirate Blackbeard! We will soon be visiting Chatham Dockside to develop our knowledge of pirates.

In literacy we are working hard to improve our writing skills and many parents of St. Theresa’s engaged in a successful writing workshop so that similar strategies are being used at home and school. We all agreed that more reading tends to equal a better quality of writing and so everyone is upping the frequency and quality of what they are reading.

Talk for writing- an initiative developed by Pie Corbett- is very popular in our class and we are enjoying creating fictional stories in this way.

Maths always keeps us busy and a big focus at this time of year is developing jottings and reducing our reliance on resources. Jottings is the name we have given to various visual representations we draw to support us with many maths topics.

Lullingstone country park.  We explored habitats, went pond dipping and did some fantastic clay work. It was a really great start to the year.
